Triannual Aquaculture Meeting – March 2025
Drs. Stokesbury and Zavell recently attended the triannual Aquaculture meeting in New Orleans. At this meeting Dr. Stokesbury was sworn in as the President of the National Shellfisheries Association and Dr. Zavell was awarded the Sandra E. Shumway award for best student paper in the 2023 volume of the Journal of Shellfish Research!
SNEC Winter Science Meeting – January 2025
The Southern New England Chapter (SNEC) of American Fisheries Society (AFS) winter science meeting was held at SMAST in January. This one-day meeting included talks and posters from researchers across UMass universities, University of New England, University of Maine, as well as representation from Massachusetts DMF, Center for Coastal studies, Coonamesset Farm Foundation and others. It was an impressive showcase of ongoing and completed research. SMAST was awarded the Outstanding Organization Award.
Annual AFS Meeting – September 2024
This year’s annual AFS meeting was held in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii. SMAST had a great showing of current students, professors, recent graduates and alumni. SMAST presented and hosted a variety of sessions including ecosystem based management, offshore wind and fisheries, and advancing technology in marine science.

International Pectinind Conference – April 2024
Held on the Isle of Man, the Pectinid conference was a great success! Four members of the lab attended including Drs. Stokesbury and Delargy, and Amber Lisi and Craig Lego. Great conversations were held between international collaborators to advance the understanding of scallops.
